Today, City Council approved a motion to refer the proposed high density ordinance back to the administration. The effect of this action is to indefinitely delay the further development of this ordinance. However, the Mayor also announced a new policy, which is explained in the documents posted above, whereby the City of Houston will use an existing ordinance, sometimes referred to as the “curb cut” ordinance, to address objectionable traffic impacts from certain kinds of new high density developments.…

At the City Council meeting this morning, the Council approved a motion by Council Member Clutterbuck to delay consideration of the high density ordinance for two more weeks. The Buckhead developers have also agreed to delay any permitting on the Ashby High Rise for this same two week period. The action to delay the ordinance for another two weeks was expected and was consistent with what City representatives had communicated to us as of last Thursday.

During his weekly press conference following the City Council meeting, however, Mayor White announced his intention to further delay action on the high density…

Kevin Kirton and Matthew Morgan requested a meeting with representatives of the Stop Ashby High Rise Task Force to discuss alternatives to the construction of the 23-story commercial/residential building at 1717 Ashby that they originally proposed. The meeting was held on Tuesday, February 5 at Buckhead Investments’ office. At that meeting, the developers  said they would consider two alternatives to the 23-story project:

1. Reducing the height of the structure to 19 stories by building fewer, bigger condominium units, but they reserved the right to build as many units as originally proposed if they could not sell enough of the larger…

NEWS FLASH: Today’s Regulation & Development Committee meeting has been canceled!

Dear Neighbors and opponents to the Ashby High Rise:

According to Andy Icken, Deputy Director of the Planning and Development Services Division of the Houston Public Works Department, the Ashby High Rise developers have agreed to delay any permitting relating to the project an additional two weeks to allow the city to further refine the High Density ordinance amendment to Ch. 45.

Therefore, we will not need to pack city council meetings this week, although we do hope that some of you will attend the meetings and sign up to speak…
